I have decided to put more time and energy into my research. It’s been a pleasure to answer your emails and to help you through some of life’s tough journeys. Everyone who has participated in my Dear Eugenia column has enriched my life and I hope I have improved yours as well.
For those of you who wish to contribute birth data to my research, please enter your information to my medical astrology research listed on my home page. This research is explicitly dealing with cancer and mental health – addiction illness. The focus is on early diagnosis and preventative medicine.
I want to stress how important it is to submit complete and accurate birth data – the time and place of birth.

I'm a 21-year old gay male living in New Mexico. I have been addicted to substances (alcohol, etc.) since I was a teenager. I can't shake them and can't seem to imagine a life without them. They are getting in the way of possible love interests because if I had a partner, they would need to be patient with the substances. As it is, I cling to phone sex and pornography to continue the escapism. I'm not complaining about my life. I've learned to live with it. But is there something in my chart that would explain my problem? That's all I need to know right now. If you could be so kind as to maybe help me explore this, I would be eternally grateful. I was born July 14, 1980, at 4 AM.

You were born with your natal Neptune opposite your natal Venus across your sixth and twelfth. This is considered to be sorrowful, addictive, escapist and so forth. I believe that you are coming to a turning point in your life over the course of the next couple of years while transiting Saturn moves through the sign Gemini. This will cause some depression, some physical limitations and could even lead you to a rehab center or institutional type environment. I believe that you can turn things around if you want but I fear that you will have to hit rock bottom before that happens. Your chart indicates that you must be careful not to get involved with someone who is equally as addictive or someone who is already involved with another. What you should be focusing on the rest of this year and the first half of next is what you want to do with the rest of your life regarding your career. I was born January 9th, 1968 at 10:00 P.M. It seems that too often when I read up on Capricorn, there is some type of foreboding or conflict pending, especially of late. Is there some sort of alignment somewhere creating this, and if so when will it change for the better. I have taken on a new business venture that is growing, but there seems to have been a great deal of obstacles slowing things down along the way. I was going insane emotionally and mentally, and so was my partner, who couldn't understand (as a witness), why there were so many delays with so much input on my part. My relationship suffered because of it. Do you know what's going on out there?

Well yes indeed there have been a couple of transiting planets (Saturn and Jupiter) playing havoc with your sign and to top it off other parts of your chart have also been afflicted by Uranus and Neptune as well. One of the most important transits that moved into your chart last fall and will remain with you until late this fall can cause you to expand too fast, take on too much etc so it is important that you don't move or grow too quickly. Transiting Saturn has been moving through the sign Cancer your polar opposite and this can cause limitations, frustrations, setback and obstacles which is exactly what you have been experiencing. This transit will be moving off your chart mid summer bringing you some relief. In the late fall when Jupiter moves into the sign Scorpio for approximately one year you will find that the tables will begin to turn in your favor in many different areas of your life from business to personal. Capricorns are very self-sufficient so they tend to move along even through the difficult times fixing things along the way. You didn't include your partners birth data however I'm sure he or she will be glad to hear that you do have better times heading your way. The area of your chart that deals with partnerships has been experiencing grief as well however this should begin to clear up the second half of this year and throughout next so you should be able to make amends.

I came across this website tonight and found myself hopeful in finding the answer to my question. I am a Capricorn (12/28/81) with the time approximately 6pm. Many times I have read about my sign that it is hard for me to have fulfilling relationships. The strange thing is that I never had any. My relationships with males such as my father, male friends, and boyfriends have always been tremendously turbulent. I recently started dated someone (08/13/79) who surprisingly turned out to be very important in my life. I'm scared that all the predictions about Capricorns and Leo's are true (they say our signs do not match well) and that this relationship will not go far due to the descriptions of my sign and my proof of past history. I would tremendously appreciate any information or advice you could give me.

You don't match up badly to your Leo friend. One of the reasons that you get along so well with this sign is because you have Leo rising. With your natal Venus and Moon in the sign Aquarius in your house of relationships you should do quite well with this relationship. With your Sun and natal Mercury in Capricorn and his Moon in Taurus you should also find some common ground.
