I'm a 21-year old gay male living in New Mexico. I have been addicted to substances (alcohol, etc.) since I was a teenager. I can't shake them and can't seem to imagine a life without them. They are getting in the way of possible love interests because if I had a partner, they would need to be patient with the substances. As it is, I cling to phone sex and pornography to continue the escapism. I'm not complaining about my life. I've learned to live with it. The comparison with your husband was okay but there were some difficulties and sorrow that showed up where health and children are concerned. You are at the tail end of a very depressing and difficult period that has affected your personal life, relationship and yes even your connection to a lot of your friends and family.
